I have never seen scenic beauty like I did on this trip. Alaska is amazingly beautiful. This trip was our High School Graduation gift to Michael. We got Michael and his friend, Leon, a trip to Alaska! Of course, while I was there, I had to knock Alaska off my marathon list.
While planning for the trip, Michael surprised me and said he wanted to run the marathon. Our schedules got the better of us, and our training was very lacking. I decided I was going to walk for 30 seconds every 1/2 mile, and just soak in the beauty.
Michael had a pretty bad cough on Thursday and Friday, so I was very nervous about him running a marathon. The race started, and he was gone, like out of a cannon.
When I first saw Malissa, Michael, and Leon at about mile 20, they screamed at me that Michael took 2nd place overall! I couldn't believe it, it really provided a boost to get me that last 6 miles.
After the race, we drove all over, hiked several trails and just soaked in the beauty. The weather didn't really cooperate, but the sun made a few appearances and we made the best of it. I'll let the pictures (and there are a lot of them) tell the story...
